This past summer, the U.S. Women's National Soccer team won the FIFA Women's World Cup again. They have won previous World Cup championships and Olympic Gold Medals and have been far more successful internationally than the U.S. Men's Soccer team. Both teams are operated by U.S. Soccer, and yet- the Men are paid significantly more in salary and bonuses.
For a regular season, if the women's team wins 20 exhibition games, a top player may earn $99,000.
On the mens team- same deal, the men's top players earn up to 263,000
In the World Cup, for winning the championship was awarded a bonus of $2 million to share.
In 2015, the Men's team was awarded a bonus of $9 million for going 1-2-1 and being eliminated in the round of 16.
It just isn't fair. Now, 5 players on the U.S. National Women's soccer team have sued U.S. soccer over the gender pay gap.
What do you think about this, what do you think the best solution would be, and what do you think a win for the women soccer team would do for women's sports in general?
